Q: Tell us a bit about you and your channel
A: Hi! My name is Jenn and I been making YouTube videos since I was 14 years old. I started my channel just by posting random videos that I was passionate about or interested in, and since then my Youtube channel has grown to over 111k subscribers and 15 million total views!
Q: What inspired you to start your channel?
A: Ever since I was a little kid, I loved being in front of a camera and working with social media. I loved managing Instagram accounts and quickly grew in love with the idea of growing my brand through video. My first YouTube video was about my favourite pen brush set, Tombow dual brush pens, and quickly evolved to a more technical focus with the games I loved playing on my phone!
Q: What’s your favourite thing about creating content?
A: My favourite thing about creating content is the process of developing a video that others would be interested in watching, and later interacting with my viewers. I love the steps starting with raw footage, editing the video, creating a thumbnail, and responding to the viewers of my video after I post it. The best part of it all is that I am able to connect with viewers all over the world! It’s crazy to think that are so many people from countries I have never been to that have watched my videos. I feel so thankful to have an opportunity like this.
Q: What’s the most challenging thing about being a creator?
A: The most challenging part about being a creator is balancing my life and creating videos. I am a full time student but I love making videos and it is often hard to balance the two.
Q: How much importance do you place on audience engagement, and how do you engage with your fans?
A: I think that it is SO important to interact with and engage with my fans! I love responding to DM’s on Instagram and responding to comments on my videos. My favourite moment is right when I post my videos, and I get to interact with my viewers in real-time. It is such an amazing experience! Fans are the #1 part of any channel, because without the viewers all you have is videos. It is so interesting to hear every viewers feedback, listen to them, and build a connection with them.
Q: How did you grow your channel?
A: When I made my channel, I got very lucky because after my first couple of videos on Youtube, I saw that they were able to gain lots of attention. My videos on the app I played, Episode, really caught the attention of my viewers so I continued making that style of video. With regular uploads, a better camera, and improved editing, I really believe I was able to grow my audience even more.
Q: Where do you go to find tips for creating content/ growing your channel?
A: To find tips on growing my channel, I often go to google and search up any questions I have! I find it really interesting to read up on how to grow a great channel, and how certain elements impact the Youtube algorithm.
Q: What advice would you give other creators/ aspiring creators?
A: My biggest piece of advice to anyone who is considering making a channel — Just do it! You never know where your channel can take you. Just post videos for fun, not for the views or subscriber count, and you will have a blast. If you are creating videos you truly are passionate in what you are making, the rest will come.
Q: Your fave creators:
A: My fave creators at the moment are Sadie Aldis, jennxpenn, and Haley Pham.
Q: How can people connect with you? (social links)
A: You can connect with me on YouTube Jenn Creates, Instagram @createsjenn, or Tiktok @createsjenn!
